Biblical Counseling
Center
of Southeast Michigan
The BCC Is Bible
Centered.
We believe that the Bible is the Word of God.
Rather than depend upon the changing ideas of man, as demonstrated
in counseling psychology, we look to the Bible to describe who we
are. The Bible explains that we are sinners in need of God's grace.
The Bible gives practical understanding of our problems and how to
resolve them.
We do not simply use broad Christian principles
for counseling. We open the Bible and read from it in order to
understand how God sees us, our problems and their
solutions.
The Scriptures are God breathed and profitable
(II Timothy 3:16-17). God's Word is sharper than a two edged sword
and able to reach into the deepest parts of us. There is no other
counseling method that can more deeply understand and minister to
those who seek after God's help in His Word.
The BCC is Christ
Centered.
Mankind's greatest need is for a savior. Jesus
Christ is God's most basic answer to the problems we face in life.
All the answers we seek to the many problems of life are to be
found in Him.
Many believers have lost their grounding in
Christ. Even though they may be saved, they are not experiencing
the power of their salvation. We help people refocus upon Jesus
Christ and thereby see the answers to life's problems which Jesus
promises His people.
God's grace is sufficient for us. We can do all
things through Him who strengthens us. Since God loves us enough to
give us his only son, surely he will give us anything we needed (II
Cor. 12:9; Phil. 4:13; Rom. 8:32).
Marriages can be restored, parent child
relationships healed, anxiety, worry, fear, and anger overcome. God
can change the heart of the addicted and give them freedom from
their former slavery. Eating disorders, depression,
self-mutilation, compulsive behavior, panic attacks, all these and
more the Bible addresses and Christ is always central to the
counseling.
The BCC is Competent to Counsel.
Our counselors have extensive training in the Bible and in
counseling. Our counselors are certified (or completing
certification) by the National Association of Nouthetic Counselors,
(a biblical counseling certification
association).
We are in our 3rd year of
ministry! The Lord has been pleased to use us to minister to
hundreds of families and individuals. We have seen many lives
changed, renewed by God's grace in Jesus Christ.
Jesus Himself is the Wonderful
Counselor. Counseling does not stop when people leave. The Lord
continues to direct men and women to faithfully walk with him by
encouraging them and keeping them on the path that pleases Him and
blesses them.
The BCC is People Centered
Despite all the goodness that is ours in Christ
the hearts of God's people can be deeply hurt. Jesus showed
compassion to his disciples by recognizing that the spirit is
willing but the flesh is weak. We understand that someone can
really love the Lord and still struggle with sin and the hurts of
life.
Our counseling is compassionate but still
direct. Change happens quickly as we seek God's help. Jesus calls
all who are weak and weary to come unto Him, and He will give you
rest.
Confronting our sins and failures as well as
the hurts we receive from others is very hard work. We cannot make
this work easier, but we do show compassion, patience and the love
of Christ to those to whom we minister.
The BCC is Local Church
Centered
The local church is God's primary instrument
for the carrying out of the Great Commission in this age. We are
very sensitive to the fact that the BCC is a para-church
organization. But make no mistake about it! We have strong
convictions about the primacy of the local church! Our mission and
ministry is to assist the local church through providing training
and experienced counseling help for difficult cases.
Pastors regularly share with us that they are
so glad we are here to turn to for help. All of our staff are
members of strong, Bible-believing local churches, who give moral
and doctrinal oversight to their lives and ministries at the BCC.
Our Board is composed of pastors of Bible-believing local churches.
If local churches do not desire us to be here, there is no reason
for us to exist, in our thinking.
Financial Matters
We are a ministry and do not charge a fee.
However, Counselees are encouraged to make a donation toward our
ministry each counseling session as their financial situation
allows. This is important, as it helps us keep our doors open. But
no one is ever turned away if they are able to give a little or
nothing at all. We encourage counselees who cannot make a donation
now to remember us later when their financial situation improves.
This allows us to keep our doors open to all who are seeking the
Lord's help in their time of need.
A local church in Ypsilanti has graciously
provided our office building to us at no cost as part of their
Missions giving. This allows us to have very low overhead, not
having to use precious funds to finance and service a building. All
of our donations go directly into our ministry---counseling,
training and assisting local churches.
In the first two years of our existence, with
the Center being open only part-time, we held nearly 1,000
counseling sessions and assisted, in various ways, over 80 churches
in the Metro-Detroit area.
We are trusting God for the adding of financial
support and donors as we now, by faith, expand the ministry of the
Center to full-time status.
Our Hours
We understand the demands that are made on your
time. There are morning, afternoon and evening appointments
available for counseling. We cannot guarantee that your favorite
time slot will be open but we do our best to accommodate the
schedules of those seeking our help.
